Hey Product Enthusiasts,
This Diwali, we see a lieu of innovative product launches and hence our theme for this edition is “ Talking new products this Diwali”. It is interesting to see the difference in products launched last Diwali vs this Diwali. The Pandemic has forced Product Managers to ideate out of the box and come up with innovative product offerings that suit the changing landscape. With that background in mind, we felt the need to contribute towards the changing needs that a Product Manager has to adapt to. With great pride, we announce the launch of Product Tank Pune’s APM program which will provide the right platform for aspiring product managers, mentors, and businesses/companies to grow and expand the ecosystem. So far we have received 150+ registrations and we are super thrilled with the response. More to come soon!
With that said, we wish you and your family a Happy Diwali.🎉🎉
May the lights guide to numerous successful product launches 🤩

Speaking of launches…
Apple had 3 major events in the last 2 months itself! And as Amit mentioned on our Twitter feed - we just cannot wait to get our hands on those new MacBooks.
The new iPhone 12’s have launched as well. Although the iPhone launch events always have attracted plenty of attention, one particular change from Apple was a big point of discussion.
New iPhones will ship without a charger!
Yes, Apple decided to skip charger this year. Well, there are two main schools of thought here.
The first group believes, it is a great move for the environment. With fewer items included, the iPhone's packaging is smaller. Apple even claims this would "cut over 2 million metric tons of carbon annually; it’s like removing 450,000 cars from roads every year."
Which sounds all good.
But second group reasons, Apple could make an even bigger dent by simply switching to a universal charging cable, instead of the proprietary lightning port. Both valid points.
Either way, if you could not see that event, here is a nice 12-minute recap
What do you think of the events and the new Apple products? Are there any you are looking forward to? Let us know in the comments.
Quick Recap of the last PTP Event
The Product Tank Pune community organized an event in collaboration with MixPanel.
The survey topic was…
Metrics that matter from Product Managers in India
I urge you to check the survey report yourself. It has some really great insights into how the product management space is evolving in the country. Something tells me, you will find this very interesting.
We had a small thread on Twitter for some of the major talking points from the survey. If you wish to, you can go through the entire recording of the event too.
At this point, I would like to urge you to follow us on Twitter too. We are just getting started and have some exciting things planned for our followers there.
Product Tank Pune's APM Program
One of India's first community-driven Associate Product Manager (APM) program.
It is a 6-month full-time program where you will learn the craft of Product Management with experienced mentors and gain on-the-job product management experience.
Who should be interested?
Anyone who wants to get a crack at the product management space. Even if you are a fresher or have a few years of experience under your belt.
What will happen?
PTP is collaborating with companies of all shapes and sizes, and the candidates selected in this program will get a chance to work alongside their product teams for 6 months.
Can you please spread the word?
We would appreciate it if you can help us reach out to more people who you think might be benefited from this program.
Thanks in advance!
Scrolling through producthunt, I think this year, in general, has been great for new products.
One product that caught my eye in 2020 is BannerBear.
Story of BannerBear
Bannerbear helps you auto-generate photos/videos to post on social media.
Why I wanted to talk about BannerBear -
It is a one-man company and completely bootstrapped with 6k MRR 😨
The founder, Jon Yongfook, was nice enough to document his journey.
Jon also regularly shares revenue and other important metrics here, to motivate people to launch their own products.
Probably the most interesting fact about bannerbear is that
It was born out of an experiment.
Jon's goal was to launch 12 products in 12 months. Bannerbear was the 8th.
Eight-time the charm. 😅
You can read more about his failed products here.

Discord - the new guy
We had a pretty interesting discussion on whether Discord has the potential to disrupt Slack and possibly even WhatsApp. 😨
I know, tall claims.
Gaurav took Discord to the test. You can check his detailed analysis here.

Let me know if you are not blown away by this. 🤗
Another interesting take on Discord by Balaji Prasad
It has got all the features of slack except threads and is completely free. You can surely try it for informal purposes. It has got a flavor of informal/gaming into it especially the bots thing. It was orginally created for gaming communities but is slowly growing as a potential free competitor to slack.
Cadbury - Hyperlocal Ads
If you are not aware of it yet, Cadbury - the brand associated with Diwali, has launched a great new campaign.
'Not Just A Cadbury Ad' is a hyper-local and data-driven campaign to support local businesses hit by the pandemic.
